Søren Martinsen

Selvportræt som Træ
80x100 cm, 2022. Oil on linen
I am a visual artist, working primarily in painting - with additional ventures into video and installation.
My primary focus is to depict the world we live in with all its idiosyncrasies, terror and beauty. To achieve this, my main focus over a number of years has been an exploration of landscape, in the widest sense of the word. The concept of landscape in an artistic context is for me a very rich and inspiring framework for making art that deals with the human condition and the condition of our environment simultaneously.
A human perspective: we are inherently alone, looking at the world. Nature and culture, humans and the planet, are inextricably linked in the view we have of the world, the two-eye perspective we are born with. I am not trying to show more than what can be seen from our point of view, but to show the world with compassion and note the atmosphere and the stories about us and the world in the tableaux I present.
